Doula Accompaniment Program

We are seeking expansive, reproductive justice-centered, community-focused abortion doulas to support passengers traveling to their appointments.

About Elevated Access

Elevated Access was founded in 2022 in response to increasing restrictions on abortion and gender-affirming care. As a nonprofit, we attempt to ease the burden where governmental and healthcare systems have failed by providing fast, free, and compassionate transportation for those suffering roadblocks to their bodily autonomy. We do this through careful coordination with organizational partners, logistical coordinators, and a network of pilots.

Project Overview

As travel continues to impose additional levels of threat, anxiety, and fear, especially to folks seeking abortion, gender-affirming care and birth/postpartum care, passengers need and deserve more support navigating the onslaught of barriers that impact their ability to attend their appointment. Elevated Access seeks to connect doulas who are already supporting community members with passengers who deserve human-centered care for their entire journey.

Details

Elevated Access is looking to build a collective of doulas that would support abortion seekers through their flight there, their appointment and their flight home. The doula would offer emotional support throughout the flight for passengers that have never traveled before, have flight anxiety and/or need more support during physical transition.

  • Elevated Access supports both the passenger and doula with a commercial or volunteer pilot flight.

  • The doula will support same-day roundtrip travel as well as travel that requires 1 night hotel stay at maximum.

  • Doulas will be compensated via flat fee. The doula will receive $350 with ground travel reimbursement for same-day roundtrip flights to passenger’s appointment and $750 with ground travel reimbursement for an oversight stay after passenger’s appointment. Elevated Access will also cover the hotel stay.

  • Elevated Access will support 1 - 2 doula-supported trips per month during a 3-month basis during this pilot program with a possibility to extend.

Ideal Doula Profile

  • One year of experience as an abortion doula

  • RJ-centered training and mentorship

  • Trans-inclusive, community-centered and trauma informed

  • Confident and knowledgeable airline traveler

  • Experience working with disabled, neurodivergent or chronically folks traveling via flight and seeking abortion care.

  • Someone who feels confident in their ability to care and advocate for and actively listen to the needs of abortion seekers.

  • Someone who desires to gain more experience and collaborate in the building of community care network.
